My contribution is predominantly in Research and Cultural Activism in the area of Cultural Identity and Performance. Ever since we arrived in this country (1991) with my family we have been actively involved in promoting a positive image of Africa, through the arts. I have along with my family helped to organise groups of African migrants to actively get involved with the arts as a means of promoting a positive image of the African migrant.

I have had to go out and meet the people! (That’s the best bit). You have to be willing to make calls, send emails and letters and people will respond to you when they realise you are genuine. I know I have raised awareness for the African community because I have had positive responses from different sections of society from schools to Government officials. The response from Africans themselves has been overwhelming too and that’s been very encouraging. It means I am on the right track.

Charity begins from home. If you build a stable and secure family; If you work hard at work and continue to improve your quality; If you strive to be part of Australia and to be community minded, the people will also value you and love you.
